33. The Clover Hound

A quarter of an hour west of the village of Eggersriet is the hamlet of Egg. A footpath leads there through the clover, where there used to be a pretty beech forest. This path was pleasant for us during the day, but at night we avoided it fearfully, because the Clover Hound lived there and frightened many a late hiker.

This dog was no ordinary animal, but a supernatural evil creature that would pounce on its victim, sit on its back and dig its claws in so deeply that the marks were clearly visible for a long time. Dripping with sweat, the terrified man ran to the next house. There the tormentor left him and disappeared as quickly as he had come.

That’s how it was years ago! The beech forest has long since fallen under the axe, and since then no one has seen the Clover Hound either, so he will probably have disappeared never to be seen again.
