It is said that before the foundation stone was laid, a mighty silver fir stood on the spot where the village church now stands; hence the name of the village and valley (Weisstannen). The latter was formerly called Maiental.

An der Stelle, wo jetzt das Kirchlein des Dorfes steht, soll vor der Grundsteinlegung eine mächtige Weisstanne gestanden haben; daher der Name des Dorfes und Tales. Letzteres habe früher Maiental geheissen.
