There was once a dispute about the Walser pasture. A false witness had scattered earth in his shoes and stuck a spoon in his hat and now swore that he stood on his ground as surely as he had the creator above him. This is how the disputed land came to belong to Alp Lax, which belonged to the convent in Schänis. But now the “Klostergritt” came into being, which every summer passed through the village of Weisstannen at night with a great clattering and trampling of horses. It was still clearly heard around 1850, but not since then.

267. Das Klostergritt

Um die Walserweide wurde einst gestritten. Ein falscher Zeuge hatte Erde in die Schuhe gestreut und einen Löffel in den Hut gesteckt und schwur nun, er stehe so gewiss auf seinem Boden, als er den Schöpfer über sich habe. So kam das umstrittene Grundstück zur Alp Lax, die dem Frauenstift in Schänis gehörte. Aber nun entstand das “Klostergritt”, das jeden Sommer nächtlicherweile durch das Dorf Weisstannen zog mit grossem Gerassel und Pferdegetrampel. Noch ums Jahr 1850 wurde es deutlich gehört, seither aber nicht mehr.
