If one has the opportunity to throw something at the Schrättlig, it has to stay. A young guy did this and then closed the window through which the Schrättlig had come. He looked for it on the floor, but there was only a straw. The boy picked it up to snap it and throw it out of the window. Then the straw became a beautiful girl.

The lad liked her and took her as his wife without hesitation. But he always had to keep the window closed through which his wife had come; she could only escape through it.

The man believed that the children would bind the mother to the house, but he was wrong. Once he opened the window, she fled away and never came back.

319. Wie man zu einer Frau kommt

Hat man Gelegenheit, dem Schr ä ttlig etwas nachzuwerfen, so muss er bleiben. Ein junger Bursche tat das und schloss hierauf das Fenster, durch welches der Schrättlig gekommen war. Er suchte ihn auf dem Boden; da lag aber nur ein Strohhalm. Der Bursche hob diesen auf, um ihn zu zerbrechen und zum Fenster hinauszuwerfen.

Da ward aus dem Strohhalm ein schönes Mädchen. Der Bursche fand Gefallen an ihm und nahm es unbedenklich zur Frau. Er musste aber stets das Fenster, durch welches seine Ehegattin gekommen war, geschlossen halten; sie konnte nur durch dieses entfliehen.

Der Mann glaubte, die Kinder werden die Mutter an das Haus binden; aber da irrte er sich. Wie er einst das Fenster öffnete, floh sie fort und kam nicht wieder.
