344. A Death / Ein Sterbent

In 1566, on the Feast of Corpus Christi, a death occurred. By the end of autumn, 650 people had died in the entire Kilchhöri (Wallenstadt), 1100 in Flums and many in Quarten.

Editor’s note: “Sterbent” seems to an archaic noun form of “sterben”, “to die”. Search engine research (totally rigorous) only seems to bring up results for this word relating to a particular plague epidemic in the 1500s, to which this fragment also refers. For example, the references for this article “Die Pest von 1563/64.


344. Ein Sterbent

Anno 1566, an unseres Herrn Fronleichnamstag, ist ein Sterbent eingefallen. Bis ausgehenden Herbst seind in der ganzen Kilchhöri (Wallenstadt) 650 Personen gestorben, zu Flums 1100, zu Quarten auch viel.
