The hamlet of Langaufeld still lies between Lütisburg and Mosnang. In the distant past, there lived a foolish and pleasure-seeking girl. Whenever there was a dance, you were sure to meet the boisterous child of the world. She always wore striking clothes, but the most striking thing about her were the unusually high and thin heels on her shoes, the “Stöckli“. That’s why they called him the “Stöckli-Meitli“.

But the exuberance came to an end with horror. During a dance, death took her away.
But she found no peace in the grave. She was often seen wandering around Langaufeld and Bitzi at midnight and probably also performing great dances. She had to walk and dance wearing a pair of iron Stöckli shoes until she was redeemed. This seems to have succeeded; for now the dancer is no longer to be seen.

454. Das Stöckli-Meitli.

Zwischen Lütisburg und Mosnang liegt noch jetzt der Weiler Lang-Aufeld. Daselbst wohnte in grauer Vorzeit ein hoffärtiges und genußsüchtiges Mädchen. Wenn irgendwo Tanz abgehalten wurde, traf man dort gewiss das ausgelassene Weltkind. Es trug stets auffallende Kleider; das Auffallendste an ihm aber waren die ungewöhnlich hohen und dünnen Absätze an den Schuhen, die “Stöckli”. Man nannte es daher das Stöckli-Meitli.

Aber die Ausgelassenheit nahm ein Ende mit Schrecken. Während eines Tanzes holte es der Tod weg.
Es fand aber im Grabe keinen Frieden. Oft sah man es um Mitternacht bei Lang-Aufeld und Bitzi umherwandeln und wohl auch tolle Tanze ausführen. Es musste bis zu seiner Erlösung ein Paar eiserne Stöckli-Schuhe durchlaufen und durchtanzen. Das scheint geglückt zu sein; denn jetzt sieht man die Tänzerin nicht mehr.
