Jacob Kuoni note: Wodan also lives on in the eternal Jew. In Christian legend, it is Ahasver who lived in Jesus’ time. When Jesus carried the cross to Golgotha, he wanted to rest on the little bench in front of a shoemaker’s house. But the owner chased him away with rude words, and so he himself must wander the world for eternity. He is not even allowed to sit down to eat. The same is also said of Malchus and other people who are known in an inglorious way from the Passion of Christ.

Hier erschein einst der ewige Jude in Riesengrösse ; sein Schatten reichte beinahe eine halbe Stunde weit. Im ewigen Juden lebt ebenfalls Wodan fort. In der christlichen Sage ist es Ahasver, der zu Jesu Zeit gelebt habe. Als Jesus das Kreuz nach Golgatha trug, wollte er auf dem Bänklein vor eines Schufters Haus ausruhen. Der Besitzer aber jagte ihn mit groben Worten fort und muss darum selbst für ewige Zeiten auf der Welt umherirren. Nicht einmal zum Essen darf er sich sessen – Das Gleiche wird übrigens auch von Malchus erzählt und von andern Personen, die aus der Leidensgeschichte Christi in unrühmlicher Weise bekannt sind.
