Once Doctor Schmon wanted to walk down the mountain at night time. When he came to the area between Freudenberg and Spillberg, he heard shouting:
“The Doctor Schmo
should to the Freudeberg go;
I wouldn’t want to hurt him!”
The good doctor, however, instead of answering the call, fled and hurried towards Vilters. He, too, was probably called to redeem the virgin and take the treasure.

Editor’s notes:
- The shouting is in Swiss-German and I might not have translated it correctly.
- the text says “das Hasenpanier ergriffen” grip the flag of the hare” which is apparently an old saying for fleeing.
- The last sentence refers to the previous story (198).
Einst wollte Doktor Schmon zur Nachtzeit dem Berge nach abwärtswandern. Als er in die Gegend zwischen Freudenberg und Spillberg kam, hörte er rufen:
“D’r Dökterli Schmo
soll uf de Freudeberg cho;
Mä würll em nüd Leids tu!”
