The Capuchins can banish spirits, who become a nuisance in inhabited places, to a lonely spot; two of these cowled men simply take him into their midst and walk with him one fine morning to the agreed new abode. Whoever happens to meet them has not in the least to fear; he only looks the other way and is finally silent.

Such a spirit sits in the Geissbachtobel. If someone goes to the Alps and happens to spend the night in the “Geissbachställeli”, the nasty devil comes in the middle of the night and blows into the sleeper’s face so that it swells up high until morning and the head becomes as big as a milking bucket.

Verbannt

Die Kapuziner können Geister, die an bewohnten Orten lästig werden, an eine einsame Stelle hinausbannen; zwei dieser Kuttenmänner nehmen ihn einfach in ihre Mitte und spazieren mit ihm eines schönen Morgens nach dem vereinbarten neuen Aufenthaltsort. Wer ihnen zufällig begegnet, hat sich nicht im mindesten zu fürchten; er sieht nur beiseite und schweigt fein still.

Ein solcher Geist sitzt im Geissbachtobel. Geht jemand auf die Alpen, und nimmt er zufällig im “Geissbachställeli” Nachtquartier, so kommt der garstige Kerl mitten in der Nacht und bläst dem Schläfer ins Gesicht, dass es bis am Morgen hoch aufschwillt und der Kopf so gross wird wie ein Melkeimer.
