The Gräggi is a little animal the size of a pumpkin, but which sometimes flies, sometimes merely hops, runs, rumbles and cries out in all sorts of voices in a whimsical and sinister way. It is in hill and dale. A man from Burgerau was collecting dung in the Rhine meadows and was about to pick up a heap of horse dung when it ran away and howled miserably. It was a “Wüetihöh“.

Between Altendorf and Räfts, in the meadows where it is called Sax, one often hears an eerie piteous cry in the air and also calls this “the Wüetihöh“.

Das Gräggi

Das Gräggi ist ein Tierchen von der Grösse eines Kürbis, welches aber bald fliegt, bald bloss hüpft, läuft, kollert und in allerlei Stimmen wunderlich und unheimlich schreit. Es ist in Berg und Tal. Einer aus der Burgerau sammelte in der Rhein-Au Mist und wollte eben einen Haufen Pferdekot aufnehmen, als derselbe davonlief und jämmerlich heulte. Es war ein “Wüetihöh”.
