It is well known that much magic was done with the mandrake root in the past. All kinds of human figures were carved from it, which were thought to have magical powers. In Werdenberg, the mandrake was also believed to be a real cat-like animal that brought luck and great wealth to the house.

Alraune

Dass mit der Alraunwurzel früher viel Zauber getrieben worden, ist allbekannt. Man schnitzte aus derselben allerlei menschliche Figuren, die man für zauberkräftig hielt. Im Werdenbergischen hielt man den Alraun auch für ein wirklich existierendes katzenartiges Tier, welches dem Hause Glück und grossen Reichtum bringe.
