On the old country road that runs past Forsteck Castle, it used to be very difficult to drive and it took a lot of patience for the driver and the horses. But when a wagon was almost unable to move forward and the wagoner tried to help himself by cursing, swearing and lashing out, a red, shaggy dog would stand in front of the horses and start barking horribly, causing the horses to rebel.

Then it didn’t work at all, and the owls in the nearby forest seemed to laugh at the carter with their “Wick, Wick” and “Puhu, Puhu”.

But when the carter came to his senses, he said a pious word:

“Hi, in God’s Name”,

and at the same time had the courage to fight off the dog with his whip, the haunting was over. The horses pulled up freshly and climbed the slope of the road without a hitch.

Hi, in Gottes Namen

Auf der alten Landstrasse, die beim Schlosse Forsteck vorbeiführt, ging das Fuhrwerken vor Zeiten sehr mühsam, und es brauchte für Fuhrmann und Pferde viel Geduld. Wenn aber ein Fuhrwerk fast nicht mehr vorwärtskommen konnte und der Fuhrmann mit Fluchen, Schimpfen und Dreinschlagen sich helfen wollte, so stellte sich ein roter, zottiger Hund vor die Pferde und fing schauerlich zu bellen an, so dass die Pferde sich aufbäumten. Dann ging’s gar nicht mehr, und die Eulen im nahen Walde schienen mit ihrem “Wick, Wick” und “Puhu, Puhu” den Fuhrmann noch wacker auszulachen. 

Kam aber der Fuhrmann zur Ruhe und Besinnung, sagte er ein frommes Wort: 

“Hi, i Gotts Name”, 

und hatte er zugleich den Mut, den Hund mit der Peitsche abzuwehren, so hatte der Spuk ein Ende. Die Rosse zogen frisch an und überwanden ohne Störung die Steigung des Fahrweges.
