St. Eloi is the patron saint of blacksmiths. It is said that he cut off the legs of horses so that they could be shod more easily and then put them back on.

His image was also attached to the Splee chapel near Sargans. When “St. Loi” was named a Master, he proudly replied: “Yes, Master above all Masters!” But God punished him for this arrogance by making it impossible for Eloi to put on a cut horse leg until he went into himself and repented of his arrogance.

St. Eloi

St. Eloi ist der Patron der Schmiede. Von ihm sagt man, er habe, um die Pferde bequemer beschlagen zu können, ihnen die Beine abgeschnitten und dann wieder angesetzt.

Auch an der Spleekapelle bei Sargans war sein Bild angebracht. Als “St. Loi” einst ein Meister genannt worden, antwortete er stolz: “Ja, Meister über alle Meister!” Aber Gott strafte ihn für diesen Hochmut damit, dass Eloi ein abgeschnittenes Pferdebein nicht mehr ansetzen konnte, bis er in sich ging und seinen Hochmut bereute.
